I've been trying to get back into the regular routine of sketching. I'm not back to the daily practice I had going a few years ago, but it is starting to feel more natural.
My latest muse has been our new dog, Ivy. She is just over a year and a half old and still naps a lot during the day. She is a great model for me, because of this. I keep using the hastag #letsleepingdogslie on twitter and instagram because it makes me laugh at how appropriate it is in regards to these sketches. This season of Art Battle got off to an unexpected start for me. In 2014, I had competed in Calgary, Alberta's first Art Battle, AB124. By doing so, my name was added to a list of Art Battle "All Stars" that occasionally get invited to paint at upcoming events.
I was asked to participate in AB240 at the Calgary Aerospace Museum, a special Art Battle event sponsered by the Canadian Mint. I am so glad I did - I ended up qualifying for the final round and eventually winning the event itself! This qualified me for our provincial regional finals that were held in June. (see pictures above) I decided to compete again, at the HiFi Club for AB 258 to practice for the finals. While I didn't win that event, I did place in the final round. I did pretty well at the Regional Finals, AB292, qualifying for the final round. I felt I painted quite well that day even though I didn't win the event. More importantly, I got to hang out with friends that came to see me paint, friends I've made through Art Battle and I had a blast. I can't wait for the 2016-2017 Season to start in September! |
