It’s been a while since I’ve posted – things have been busy with our move from Airdrie to Cochrane. This past week I’ve finally been back in my studio full time. Currently I’m working on the next piece for Encompass Partnerships (check back next week to see it!) as well as a commission for a friend.
I’m excited to be back at the beautiful Leighton Art Centre this Saturday, October 1st for their Alberta Culture Days Event. I will be located in the Green Room from 10:00am – 2:00pm demoing my letterpress as well as basic printmaking. I absolutely love showing and talking about these tools and skills to the public. Hopefully it will inspire a few to come to one of my upcoming workshops! I have a block printing on fabric class on October 16th as well as a card making class on November 19th at the Leighton Centre. Also coming up this month is my trip to Langley, BC to do two demonstrations at Opus Art Supplies. My demonstration on Saturday, October 22nd is all about painting live and my class on Sunday October 23rd covers all sorts of things you can do with basic linocut printmaking. I hope to see some of you at these events! Summer has flown by and I have a ton of updates! After a heavy spring schedule, I decided to step out of my studio for a few weeks. I did do some creating, but it was all experimental and fun. For August, I had a showcase of my paintings at the beautiful Art House in Chilliwack, BC. Most importantly, I had a lot of family time and a great vacation. Now I am back in the studio making stock for the upcoming Christmas season as well as starting on my next painting for the Intersection Art Project.
In the midst of all of this, our family has decided to seek out some new adventure – we are moving from Airdrie to Cochrane, about 40 minutes away. We had numerous reasons to relocate, the main one being is that our current house is a little too small for our growing kids and my growing studio needs (more on this in another blog post). September 16th is the big move day and we are scrambling at the moment to pack up 10 years worth of accumulated stuff. I am very excited to share my new studio space. The room we have picked out will need some minor modifications as it was a dining room so the carpet and low hanging chandelier will need to be changed in order to make the space functional. Once we’ve settled in at our new house, I have a jam packed schedule leading up to Christmas. Luckily I’ve spent a decent amount of time planning each of these events already so I’m pretty much good to go! Oct. 1st - Printmaking Demo, Leighton Art Centre – I was honoured to be asked to come to the Leighton Art Centre during the Alberta Culture Days festivities to demonstrate some printmaking on my tabletop letterpress! I’ll post the times and location within LAC closer to the date. Oct. 16th - Printing on Fabric Workshop, Leighton Art Centre – This class will guide students on making their own patterned textiles using linocut printmaking. We will explore basic linocut, colour mixing and how to build a pattern. Each student will leave with their own hand carved blocks and a set of Flour Sack Tea Towels. You can sign up for it here. Oct. 22nd - Live Painting Demo, Opus Langley – In this demonstration I will talk about how to take your paintings out of the studio and into the spotlight by painting live for an audience. During this time I will complete a painting to illustrate this technique. You can sign up for it here. Oct. 23rd - Linocut Printmaking Demo, Opus Langley – During this demonstration I will show basic linocut printmaking techniques and variety of applications you can use this skill for such as fine art printmaking, card making and printing on fabric.
